Cable in the RS485 / CAN port, USB-C in a charger. The box starts.

Simulation. The texts of the box are the real ones, in English as on the box.

Before you start

Almost nothing to prepare

A USB-C charger

Any phone charger near the equipment, or a USB port. The box uses under 0.5 W.

2.4 GHz Wi-Fi where the box sits

Your usual home Wi-Fi: almost every router broadcasts 2.4 GHz. Internet is not even required at home.

Your phone

For the one-minute setup through the box’s own Wi-Fi. No app, any browser.

Nothing else

No tools, no PC, no driver, no setting to change on the battery. Your box arrives prepared for your TAICO model.

If something is off

What does the screen say?

The box’s screen tells you where it stands. Find your case below.

The screen stays black

The USB-C charger or cable is the usual suspect: try another one, or a computer’s USB port. The box needs very little, under 0.5 W.

The screen says “Setup: join the Wi-Fi”

The box is waiting for your home network. Join the MoniWatt-Setup-… Wi-Fi it shows; if the page does not open, type http://192.168.4.1 in the browser.

My home network is not in the list

The box only sees 2.4 GHz networks. Most routers broadcast both: pick the 2.4 GHz one, or type its name in “Or type its name”.

The screen shows an address but no values

Check that the cable is in the RS485 / CAN port of the battery, firmly clicked in. With several batteries, use the port given in the steps below.

http://moniwatt.local does not open

Some phones do not resolve .local names. Type the address shown at the bottom of the screen instead, for example http://192.168.1.57.

In detail

Steps for TAICO

Find the right port

TAICO batteries have communication sockets on the front panel, usually marked RS485 and CAN, sometimes with address switches nearby. One of them already talks to your inverter. Leave that link as it is. TAICO Monitor goes on a free RS485 port. The layout depends on the model and the year, so send us a photo of the panel with your order if you are unsure.

1Connect

Plug the supplied RJ45 cable into the free RS485 port and into the box.

Never connect the box to the battery’s power terminals or to the inverter’s BMS cable. Communication port only.

2Power

Plug the box into a USB charger. If the battery is in a cabinet, a long USB-C cable to the nearest socket is fine.

3Wi-Fi

From your phone, join the Wi-Fi network shown on the box’s screen, choose your home network and set a password.

4Check

Go to http://moniwatt.local or the IP address shown on the screen. The first readings appear within seconds; compare the state of charge with the inverter display.

If nothing appears

  • The cable is in the CAN port, or in the port already used by the inverter.
  • With several packs in parallel, the address switches decide which one answers first; tell us your settings.
  • Send us the diagnostics page and a photo of the battery panel: we answer quickly.
Home Assistant automations

Your appliances run on the sun, by themselves

TAICO Monitor tells Home Assistant when the battery fills up and when it runs low. Four simple rules, and the washing machine, the water heater and the car use your sun instead of the grid. Watch a day:

    Questions about the installation

Do I need to switch anything off?

No. The RS485 / CAN port is a low-voltage communication port: you plug in while the battery runs, nothing to open.

Do I need an app or an account?

No. Setup is done in your phone’s browser, through the box’s own Wi-Fi. The free Cloud account is optional, only to see your system from away.

    Will it change my settings?

No. The box only reads: the limits, switches and settings of your battery stay exactly as they are.

    What if my Wi-Fi changes?

Change it from the box settings page. If the box cannot reach your network for a few minutes, it opens its setup Wi-Fi again by itself.

Can my installer set it up for me?

Yes, and they can follow your system from their own Cloud access, while you keep yours.
